How to Cure a Hangover
If people did not drink so much alcohol, there would not be such a huge market for hangover cures. The number of cures available just makes you realize what a huge market there is for them. There are a number of problems that a hangover cure must remedy, including the by products of alcohol itself which are toxic and of course the loss of vitamins A,B & C and dehydration.
As most people who drink will attest: some drinks give you worse hangovers than others and this is caused by impurity of the drink itself. How bad your hangover is will also depend on the concentration levels of these impurities which also help determine how quickly you will become drunk. Clear drinks like vodka and Gin for example, have been filtered and contain fewer impurities than darker drinks like Cognac and Whiskey so the hangover may be less severe.
However, the real reason we have hangovers and strive for perfect hangover cures is because we simply drink too much. Often individuals become drunk because they drink on an empty stomach or drink a large amount in a short space of time but whatever the reason, no-one forces us to do it! It is well known that if you drink slowly, the body is able to process the alcohol and other toxins before they get to a level that gets us drunk. As a consequence the world has become full of hangover cures, all claiming to be the best cure for a hangover. Some of these are quite ludicrous and now, talking about hangover cures has become a common topic in bars around the world. Still, finding the best cure for a hangover is still the ‘holy grail’ to many drinkers.

Left unchecked, it doesn’t matter how much you drink, alcohol will gradually dehydrate the body and this dehydration can lead to the hangover headache the next day. Knowing this, it should be really easy to avoid a hangover by just ensuring your body is re-hydrated before you go to sleep, but how many of us actually do this. Some swear by drinking a pint of water before sleep as well as taking a couple of headache tablets and drinking a glass of orange juice in the morning as it puts back some of the lost vitamin C. This is quite affective but like many things in life, the older you become as far as drinking is concerned, the less you actually able to drink in the first place and the less likely it is the hangover cures will work.
Eating bananas which contain large amounts of fructose, and potassium, pass as a credible hangover cure because these are two things the body loses when you drink. Fortunately, bananas contain a natural antacid to help with the sick feeling, and because they are high in magnesium they can help relax those pounding blood vessels that cause the famous hangover headache.
Probably the most famous hangover cure is a ‘Bloody Mary’ which is vodka, tomato juice and a few other components, but some individuals just cannot face more alcohol when they are feeling that bad so it is difficult to say just how affective this cure for a hangover is. However, your best defense to a hangover is to know when you have had enough or better still, not to drink at all, then you won’t actually need a hangover cure!
