These days there are numerous malpractices done by medical practice’s a majority of them are done by medical assistants, though it is not always their fault. A medical assistant resume may be very impressive and it may make you believe that he is very qualified and that he is very experienced, but even though that maybe true, it’s not the complete picture. This raises considerable amount of doubt over medical assistant’s scope of practice. It is everyone’s duty and job to know the rules and regulations regarding medical assistant’s scope of practice. The responsibility must be shared by everyone starting from the medical assistant’s instructors, supervising physicians to health care practitioners, and office managers , and the medical assistant’s role and responsibilities must be clearly defined and communicated and vice versa.
Take for example medical assistants are not permitted to take independent examinations or give any kind of medical advice. As per the rules and regulations it also states that anybody performing ultrasound procedures, EKGs, phlebotomy, or X-rays must have a license to do so. They are even required to maintain a license when giving injections. As medical assistants are not licensed professionals they are not required to own a medical license and can work under the direct supervision of a licensed physician(What Are Physician Assistant Requirements?), nurse practitioner, registered nurse or physician assistant as and when they provide direct patient care procedures. So a lot of thought needs to be given before deciding to become a professional medical assistant.
